What to Expect at the Riverton Church

Our goal is to worship God in “spirit and truth” (John 4:24) every time we gather together.

On Sunday Morning we begin with Bible Study at 9 AM. During this time we offer classes for children, teens, and adults. This is a great opportunity to dig deep into the bible and share your thoughts on scripture. Everyone is welcome to participate and share while we study God’s word together. We always have fresh coffee, cookies, and other treats ready to be enjoyed at bible study time. Don’t feel pressure to come to bible class, we would love to see you at our Worship Assembly.

We begin our Worship Assembly at 10AM ish’, we aren’t to particular about starting on time. You will find coffee and cookies to your left in the back as you enter our main doors, and our auditorium to the right. Everything else you may need is pretty easy to find and don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions. We are a very laid back group of Christians, don’t feel the need to dress up for a special occasion to worship with us, rather come as you are.

We will begin our time of worship with a song, greeting, and announcements about what is happening around the Riverton Church. We then sing hymns & spiritual songs together in worship to God (Eph 5:19). You might notice that we sing accapella (Without instrumental accompaniment) together and not with a choir or a band on stage. We do this because we love to sing together and think that simple worship is encouraging and looks a lot like what early Christians did together.

After singing we come together for a time of communion or Lord’s Supper. A short message will be given about Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, and how we can remember what he has done for us every time we partake in this symbol. A prayer will be given and a tray of bread passed around, reminding us of Jesus’ body that was broken on our behalf. Feel free and take some bread for yourself or pass it along. After the bread has been shared another prayer will be offered and a tray of Juice will be passed, an opportunity for us to reflect on Christ’s blood that was spilled for us.

After communion you will hear a message from the word of God delivered by our preacher or a brother from the congregation. We try and make these sermons engaging, relevant, and most importantly from the Bible. We will close the message with a song.

As we conclude our Worship Assembly, we take the opportunity to share Praises & Prayers of what God is doing in our lives. This is an open time that anyone is welcome to share, you will find some of our kids walking around with microphones ready to bring it to you when you raise your hand. After all the requests have been shared we end in a prayer together.

On Wednesday Night we gather together to simply study the bible. Coffee & Cookies will always be ready, and bibles available if you don’t have one. We begin by sharing Praises and Prayers, singing a few songs, and praying together. We then spend the rest of our time studying the word of God typically straight from a book of the bible, verse by verse.

Our History – Riverton Church of Christ

At the Riverton Church we do not hold fast to any denomination or historical foundation, rather we are striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible.

The Riverton Church has been in the Riverton community since the early 1950’s, when christians saw the need to plant a church. By 1957 our original church building was completed at 402 S 7th St E. This building was well used for many years until the early 2000’s when the decision was made to sell the building and meet in a local hotel conference room. By 2007 our current building was completed at 39 Gas Hills Road, and has been or home ever since.

The Church of Christ can trace it’s roots back to the American Restoration Movement that began in the early 1800’s. In this movement followers of christ from many different denominational backgrounds came together with one goal; to unify all Christians in a single body patterned after the church of the New Testament. These early American restoration churches simply called themselves Christians, and can still be found today in congregations typically called Christian churches and Churches of Christ. These churches are non-denominational and do not have a overall church government, but rather each local congregation is autonomous focusing on the needs of their individual church body. Because of the Church of Christ’s autonomy you will find many different traditions and practices between local groups, while we also have a strong link over shared goals. We gather with many other Christian Churches and Churches of Christ at events like conferences, youth rallies, retreats, & seminars.

Minister Harold Eggar and Wife Kourtney

Harold & Kourtney joined the Riverton family in March 2020. Amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic we were glad to welcome our new minister and his wife fully into our community in June.

Harold was born and raised in Montana, growing up in the small town of Wolf Point. During his time at Oklahoma Christian University Harold saw God’s calling to ministry and served as a college minster at the Boulevard Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, OK. After 2 years in school Harold returned to Montana to take an associate minister position at the Belgrade Church of Christ in Bozeman Montana. This position furthered the opportunity to serve in a full ministry role, and work with the local church. It was this experience and God’s never ending Guidance that lead Harold to move to Lubbock, TX in 2018 and attend Sunset International Bible Institute. Harold Graduated Sunset in May 2020 with a bachelors degree in Biblical Studies. While in Texas Harold met his lifelong partner and now wife, Kourtney.

Kourtney was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas for most of her life. She met Harold in 2018 and in June of 2020 they were married. She serves as a ministry teammate to Harold and works with children in Riverton and the surrounding communities as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant.
